Teenagers' Activity Scheme

Easter and Summer Fun

Participants in the Teenagers' Activity Scheme have the opportunity to meet friends and make new ones, and to try new activities or pursue current interests.

Activities include art and craft, music, cooking, games, sensory activities, computers, hair and beauty sessions, books and magazines, and wheelchair dancing. The teenagers also have the opportunity to go into the town and visit local parks, the bowling alley and other facilities as well as accessing venues further afield such as the seaside, Taplow Adventure Playground, sensory suites and animal parks.

The scheme is operated on a one to one staffing ratio to ensure that each teenager has access to a full range of activities and that the service reflects individual requirements. The majority of the staff are students on vacation who receive training prior to the scheme. This means that they share a young outlook with the teenagers. The students gain a positive insight into disability which they will carry with them into adulthood and their future careers.

There is close liaison with schools and parents/carers so that appropriate activities can be developed. Teenagers are also encouraged to develop their own ideas and choices about activity options and every effort is made to ensure that their wishes are acted upon.
